Small, but effective pilots are key to reducing risk of a full-field deployment of a water or CO2 flood. The key is to know the full field objectives so that the duration, scale, and pilot site is chosen such that the pilot results are scalable and representative of the field. A remarkable and overlooked challenged to assessing pilot results is establishing a baseline that can be projected so that incremental oil recovery to the baseline can be demonstrated.
