Major challenges to storage projects are the projection of the distribution of the stored fluid vertically and laterally from the injection wells and maximum injection rate of individual wells. Maximizing the storage of fluids on the property in which storage rights are owned is an important aspect.

For active projects, surveillance of the project includes periodic testing of the well and reservoir using pressure transient and reservoir modeling techniques can ensure efficiency of the process and compliance with the injection permit.
